Miss Tracee brought her signature bold style to the Oscars after-parties, managing to walk away having worn two of the more memorable gowns from the late-night set. We can’t help but applaud when a star makes a star turn.
Hit it, girl.

But let’s be perfectly clear: We don’t love this. Not for style reasons, anyway. It’s a little on the tacky side of things. Elton John’s Oscars party usually is the tackier of the Oscars soirees (no offense to Sir Elton, who we’re sure totally cares what we think of his party), so that’s not necessarily a mark against this dress. She’s playing to the room with this choice. On that level, it’s the right choice. But from a style perspective, we just can’t get on board. First off, white sheer on a woman of color will always look a little odd to our eyes because any parts covered are automatically one shade lighter than the uncovered skin. Granted, the effect isn’t too bad because most of the white sheer is covered by fringe (which is itself a bit of an issue), but the disconnect between her face and chest – and the bright line that separates them – is way too distracting in pictures. But hey, she seems to love it, so go one with yourself, Tracee.
Fortunately, she went a little more traditionally chic for the Vanity Fair party:

A red beaded gown on Oscar night isn’t exactly pushing the envelope, but considering the red gown of choice this year (won by at least 4 attendees) was the tomato-red sister-wife gown, this one comes off fresher somehow. We’re inclined to like this for no other reason than that. We’d have preferred fitted sleeves and a slightly less extreme plunge in the neckline (not to mention better fit in the bust), but the color and the glitter and the overall style looks great on her. Loving the earrings.
