Oscars 2017: Hailee Steinfeld’s Pale, Sheer Floral Isn’t Up To the Task

Posted on February 28, 2017

Let’s walk our way through this one, kittens.

On the one hand, this represents a refreshing break from the Kardashian-esque, Balmain (or Balmain-esque) looks she has a tendency to favor.

And it was kind of nice to see a floral on the Oscars red carpet, since there were very few to be seen this year, to our surprise. Florals are on trend and have been all over the red carpets lately, but there seems to have been a collective eschewing of them.

On the other hand, the washed-out non-color of the gown combined with the pale florals tends to make it look like she wrapped a bedsheet around herself.

If this had been more of an opaque white, it might have had some drama to it, but once again, the lack of a lining and the industry-wide addiction to see-through frocks leaves us underwhelmed.

There’s also the fact that she busted a seam before she even got inside. That’s not a dig against her; it’s a dig against relying on such flimsy, unlined, tightly fitted designs.

We can’t. It’s not shockingly revealing or anything, but the sheerness does nothing good for the design at all.
