Miss Brie doesn’t play the red carpet game, as evidenced by her near-total lack of appearances on one since she won the Oscar a year ago. She can get a little playful and take some chances with her style when it’s needed, but she tends to play it fairly safe on a big night.
This is kind of a no-brainer of an Oscars gown, with a fairly low difficulty setting as these things go.
We realize we’re talking about a body-con strapless gown with a plunging neckline, a massive skirt ruffle and a slit to the thigh, all of which takes this look pretty far away from, say, a t-shirt and sweatpants, in terms of ease-of-use.
But despite the fact that she’s gotta drag around 15 pounds of fabric suspended off her hips and butt all night (and probably spent a good portion of it hoiking that bust in place), this is relatively easy to pull off for the Oscars.
No need to over-style it as the dress is all about classic elegance, no fear of a color mismatch because you’ve ditched color completely, no worries about looking like you’re trying to compete with the attention-seekers in the room because there’s a quiet confidence to a basic black strapless gown.
It’s a smart choice that made her look good by playing to her strengths and removing any guess work. It’s almost impossible to get a gown like this wrong, if you’re the kind of gal who can pull off this style.
