Laura Dern Takes a ’30s Turn at the Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon

Posted on February 07, 2017

We love the idea of Miss Laura in a sleek, ’30’s style gown. She’s got the same tall angularity of a Katharine Hepburn, who knew a thing or two about how to work a classic Hollywood gown back in the day. Style-wise, it’s a good match for her looks. A dress like the following one makes perfect sense on paper.

There’s just one  problem here.  Okay, two… no, wait – THREE. There are three problems here, which is probably too many problems for one look to handle. Guess as you scroll.

Color, fit and stripes. Did you guess correctly? Then you win nothing but the right to be smug. Use it wisely.

Anyway, the fit across the bodice is weird, the stripes add a sporty feel that’s totally wrong for the dress, and the color is absolutely terrible for her. We love the idea of her in a sleek, old Hollywood-style gown, but this is not a good choice for her.
