We’re not sure what the exact wording was in our Oscars Pre-Game podcast, but we predicted that Charlize would be wearing a shimmery, metallic, goddessy Dior with an Old Hollywood feel to it.
And once again we have to reluctantly admit that it didn’t take a fashion genius to make a prediction like that. It’s been her Oscars go-to look for close to a decade now.
In truth, we found some of her goddessy choices from previous years to be a bit too on-the-nose somehow; bordering on cliche a little. But this really stands out for us. First, pleated metallics are a hot little micro-trend this season and it’s rare for Miss Charlize to be so au courant. Second, the rather broad neckline trimmed in black chiffon is unexpectedly chic. Paired with the laquered up do and INSANE chandeliers, it tends to give the look the feel of a ramped-up take on classic 1950s Grace Kelly, rather than the 1930s Carole Lombard look she tends to default to for major awards show. It checks off all her boxes, allows her to stay firmly inside her strict comfort zone, but still manages to look a little freshened up. Good job all around, we say.
