We’ll get to whatever complaints/whines/critiques we might have in a second (and there’s no “might” about it). But first, we simply must take a step back, look at the bigger picture and say…
“Attagirl, Miss Amy. ATTAGIRL.”
Look, it’s too tight in the bust and the neckline is too broad for our liking. In addition, this is all exactly what we predicted she’d wear. We said in our podcast that she’d sport a slinky Tom Ford either in velvet or sequins. Beaded is close enough. That doesn’t make us fashion sages so much as it indicates how predictable she can be.
But she gave two high-profile, critically lauded performances this year and the Academy opted not to recognize either of them. Being asked to present in a situation like that smacks of consolation prize. But of course, no actor would turn down the invite. The best thing an actress can do in that situation is to show up looking every inch the movie star. Amy’s not quite capable of a truly stunning fashion moment and she’s not likely to venture outside her tiny comfort zone any time soon, but this dress was a perfect compromise. It stayed true to all her preferences while being showy and fuck-you-fabulous enough to get her point across loud and clear. “I don’t need any damn Oscar. Look at how much I’ve got going on here, bitches.”
