Miss Allison was always someone in need of a style rethink, since she had too much of a tendency to dress like a New York socialite for Hollywood-style red carpet events. And we think it’s pretty clear, based on this and other recent public ensembles, that she’s trying to do something with her style.
But damn if we can figure out what that “something ” is.
Is it us? This is awful, right? Literally every single style choice she made here is aging in some way: the hair, jewelry, makeup dress and shoes are all terrible choices for someone who’s well shy of thirty.
People have noted that she sometimes seems to be taking her cues from the Duchess of Cambridge, and while there’s something to be said for that (we could definitely see her in this dress and these shoes), there are so many reasons it’s not a good idea. First, Cathy, whatever other style faults she may have, has a good sense of color. She’d never pick a blue that made her look so icy and washed out. Second, the combination of Duchess style below the neck and … whatever the hell it is she’s trying to accomplish above the neck just doesn’t work. Third and most obvious, an actress looking to royalty for her public appearance style is actually much worse than an actress trying to make NY socialite style work in that setting.
