Tracee Ellis Ross Does Her Thing at the BAFTA Tea Party

Posted on January 08, 2017

The other day, we said we’d finally got a handle on Miss Tracee’s style: A clean face, interesting hair, played-up eyes and some sort of quirky, goofy, boho-inspired look to go with it.

Now that we can identify it…

We’re going to have to do some work on coming to a conclusion as to whether it works for her.

In this case, we’re leaning toward “No.” We love the fabric and colors. We even like the dress, for the most part. On the model. On Tracee, it looks awfully busty and overwhelming. Collar’s too binding, sleeves are too long, skirt’s too full. The braids are really cute, but we don’t think they go with the look at all. Now that we can see how consistently she applies her style, we can tell that none of this is random. The problem? It ALWAYS feels like it is. She definitely thinks out her outfits. It’s just that the end results can be varied. We’re not feeling this one, as much as we like it for being different.

Also: those shoes don’t seem to go at all. That much dress and hair that statement-making require a more substantial form of footwear. We honestly think slouchy boots might’ve been better.
