Maggie Gyllenhaal Keeps It Mostly Simple, So We Will Too

“The Deuce” actress Maggie Gyllenhaal attends the 2016 National Board of Review Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.

We’re not feeling the need to overthink this one. It happens sometimes. Even we run out of words.

This just works for her, as far as we’re concerned. Retro styles – especially the ’30s and the ’70s – are her sweet spot, and this fits the bill, with enough of a twist to keep it modern and a little fresh. We love the colors for her. The ruching’s perhaps a bit overdone and the hem comes from Satan, but the neckline and sleeves work really well with her face. We just wish the head styling was a little more polished, but we suppose that’s a lot to ask from her. “Polish” isn’t really her thing.

Anyway, without overthinking it (no, really), we like about 80 percent of this.
