“Elle” actress Isabelle Huppert attends the Armani Privé Spring 2017 fashion show during Paris Fashion Week in Paris, France.
We admit, we struggle to get a handle on what this lady needs to be doing for her red carpet style to really pop.
We got the impression from her Golden Globes appearance (as well as a handful of others during awards season) that she’s not averse to high fashion in any way. She’s a French film actress, after all. You don’t rise in that world without a little bit of exposure to (and appreciation of) fashion and how it can be used to your benefit.
But this is just not good. First, it looks incredibly dated. The color, shine and cut all say “Hillary Clinton circa 1999.”
The black sweater looks even more stale to our eyes.
We didn’t like the Armani she wore to the Globes, so we’re starting to wonder if a big part of her problem is simply not finding the right designer for herself yet. We can see her in a suit, but it needs a bigger sense of drama, both in style and shape. She needs a tapered leg, cinched waist and accentuated shoulder. She needs details like big buttons or metallic embellishments or oversized lapels or even nods to military uniforms. She needs a suit that really brings it.
Bland, pseudo-middle manager drag is doing her a terrible disservice.
