Janelle Monáe Brings the Drama to the Critics’ Choice Awards Red Carpet

You can always bet, if Miss Janelle plans on showing up for your red carpet, she’ll sport one of the most discussed looks of the night.

There’s never really any danger that someone else might show up in the same ensemble as Janelle Monae. That’s real uberstyle; that total and complete understanding that no one does it like you do it.

In truth, the dress does look a bit heavy and blankety. We can’t help thinking it would come off a bit better if it was rendered in a lighter-weight textile. That skirt doesn’t so much have flow as it has drag. But there’s no denying that this is a singular ensemble and that the level of drama it generates around itself more than makes up for any complaints about heaviness. This is Afro-Punk Witch Queen drag and it requires a sense of formality and heaviness to work, we think.

LIVING for the Disney Witch hair.
