Here’s James Franco, dull as ever on the red carpet.
Y’know, whatever else one may think of him, JF’s an interesting performer with a history of making offbeat career choices. This particular premiere may not be the best time and place for us to be making this point, but stay with us here. We would hesitate to call any major movie star an artist first, let alone an intellectual, but when compared to many of his kind, Jimmy Franco manages to keep things interesting and unexpected in his creative choices. That, of course, does not naturally lead one to think he’d be just as interesting in his style choices, but for someone who has access to people who will make those choices for him, he’d be much better served by a more eclectic red carpet style than this.
We don’t want to be the first ones to say it, because it automatically jinxes our point, but every single time we feature James Franco on the red carpet, a side conversation will spring up about how he looks like he hasn’t showered in days. The word “dirty” is inevitably used – and not in the fun way. We make no suppositions about his hygiene routine, but we’ve always thought that kind of overriding impression is an indication of how badly suited he is for this kind of style. People used to always say that about Kristen Stewart until Karl Lagerfeld made her his muse and give her permission to dress like a butch girl. Once she found her style, those comments evaporated.
A certain kind of man? Yeah, he’s just going to look dirty or slovenly in a business suit. And if he’s not a businessman, he should avoid them at all costs.
