Helen Mirren is a Dame in Red at the “Collateral Beauty” European Premiere

Posted on December 16, 2016

The lady sure does know how to work a red:

We realize that the booties were probably a needle scratch for many of you. We don’t love them as a style choice. You really can’t pair booties with a gown, and we’re a bit distressed that no one around her seemed to understand that. But they do make us smile a little. If Helen Mirren wants to get a little Lady Gaga on the RC, we’re not gonna be the queens to rag on her for it. No, they’re not the right choice, but they are a fun choice – and it’s hard for us not to respect a 71-year-old with such a commitment to wearing heels.

To be honest, we have a much bigger issue with the sleeves. Love the fringed collar and hem; love the shapely fit and how it shows off her curves. But the lace sleeves take an interesting dress a little too close to “generic.” After all, red lace is hardly in short supply on red carpets in December. If the sleeves matched the rest of the dress we’d love it unreservedly.
