Gugu Mbatha-Raw Dresses at a High Difficulty Level for the GQ Men of the Year Party

Posted on December 09, 2016

As much as we love Miss Gugu and as much as we love the pantsuit trend sweeping the red carpets of the nation…

We’re not sure this is working for us.

For one, it feels a little more springtime than December. For another, we have found that, as with their male counterparts, only certain women can pull off a double-breasted jacket. It’s a tricky garment for reasons having to do with shape and height, but not necessarily size. In other words, with both men and women, you need to have a certain indefinable height-shoulder-waist-leg ratio in order to pull one of those damn things off.

Can you tell that we gave up on the damn things years ago?

Anyway, it’s possible she has the right proportions to pull one off, but there’s no way any human can pull off a double-breasted jacket AND cropped wide-legged pants.
