Miss Ruth is barreling down on awards season and she clearly has a TON of outfits lined up, not one of which appear to be demure, subtle or designed to fade into the background.

Attagirl.

LOVE this look, although she may not be tall enough to pull it off to its optimal effect. We also tend to think the crop top would look better if it ended on a blue stripe for contrast. Still, we haven’t seen anyone else wear something quite like this on a red carpet this year. For that alone, we love it.

It’s sheer, it’s black, it’s got something silly embroidered on it. We’d like to think she’s just getting this one out of her system before she moves on to the stuff she really likes to wear.

But Miss Ruth, we reserve the right to judge you much more harshly if you make these forced-whimsy gowns a regular part of your awards season wardrobe. Resist the call, please. You’re too fabulous for trends.
