Ruth Negga in Givenchy Couture at the Gotham Independent Film Awards: IN or OUT?

Okay, we’re trying to be totally fair here.

See, we ragged on Miss Janelle for wearing a super-cray, overdesigned black jumpsuit with far too many elements to it just this morning. Now we’re looking at Miss Ruth in a super-cray, overdesigned black gown with far too many elements to it … and we’re kind of okay with it. We tend to think the elements, numerous though they are, work fairly well together here. We have our misgivings about the shape of it, not to mention the boob mustache, but we just can’t hate this as much as we probably should. A lot of that could be due to her, since she’s so good at working the off-beat, but then again, the same thing could be said about Janelle Monae and hers was a big failure.

Anyway, you get to make the call on this one, because our word is not to be trusted in this case. We’re inconsistent, capricious bitches, but that doesn’t mean you have to be.
