Darlings, don’t let today’s activities stress you out. Instead, let’s use them as a launching point for some much needed retail therapy. Lorenzo went out personal-shopping to select stylish, wearable and affordable Melania-style pussy bow blouses for you earlier this morning, and now he’s set his sights on the glass-ceiling-shattering Hillary Pantsuit.
We’ve been saying all year that if she won the election, the Hillary-style pantsuit would make a fashion comeback. Of course, they never really went away because they’re a wardrobe standard for a lot of professional women. But even we were surprised to see them make a comeback on runways and red carpets in 2016, before the election was even held. We suppose if you put one of the most photographed women in the world on a national stage day in and day out for 18 months, and she’s wearing pantsuits roughly 98% of the time, there’s going to be a bit of a trickle-down effect to the rest of fashion.
Okay, first: We’re fashion bloggers. That may not be the most revelatory information, but we’re noting it because we have to admit our eyes went first to the high-fashion options. That Balmain suit is gorgeous. And we love the severity of the D&G. The DSquared2 is surprisingly affordable, but we think it would need some tailoring.
The standard for shirt-pairing seems to be an uncomplicated shell top. Even though the pussy bow blouse is making something of a comeback, we don’t recommend trying to pair one with a suit, ’80s style. It’s just too fussy to the modern eye. But we’re asking, in all honesty, as two people who will never wear a ladies pantsuit except for maybe on a Halloween night in the hazy future, is there any other option for top or blouse that appeals to you?
Hillary likes to keep her suits all one color a lot of the time, but we think there tend to be more options for the average woman if she mixes things up a bit or pairs a colorful jacket with neutral pants. There are a lot of business-like greys and blacks in the above options, but every single bit of color up there drew our eye first and always came off a bit more stylish to us. We also tend to like the ones that have some sort of graphic detail at the label or collar of the jacket.
So, darlings, see anything you like?
