Anne Hathaway attends the 2016 Guggenheim International Gala Made Possible By Dior at Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
Or maybe it’s just us that’s feeling crabby. The point is: crab.
We’re sad to see Miss Anne succumb to the crab-on-my-breast trend in fashion, otherwise known ’round these parts as “forced whimsy.” For the latecomers, that’s what we tend to call the latter day trend of embroidering or embellishing a standard gown or dress with all sorts of random creatures and objects, from fish to tigers to lipstick tubes. To be fair, most of the embellishing here is pretty enough. The crab irritates only because it’s placed exactly on the boob for maximum impact. But to be perfectly honest, it’s not all the whimsy that has us grinding our teeth. This dress just plain looks terrible on her. For some reason, it totally obscures her waist and the top half seems to hang somewhat drably on her. And the washed-out colors are absolutely not friendly to her. But the biggest head-scratcher of all is the footwear choice. Sweetie, this was not the time to break out your manshoes. They look awful peeking out from under that dress.
Also, everyone should congratulate us for not writing “Anne Hathaway has Crabs” as the title of this post. We really, really wanted to.
