Zoe Saldana is attacked by sequined creatures at the 2016 LACMA Art + Film Gala

Won’t someone help that poor woman?

Zoe, we love you, but your dress exhausts us.

We’ll say it again, just in case you love hearing us repeat ourselves: We’re all for whimsy in high fashion. If anything, we don’t think there’s enough of it. But when we look at dresses like these, which we have dubbed “forced whimsy dresses,” it never feels or comes across … light. Whimsy, by its very nature, cannot be heavyhanded or forced. Because really, forced or heavyhanded whimsy is just another way of say “mania,” isn’t it? In other words, this dress is cray. We wish we could say it was cray in a fun way, but this style, which is all up and down the fashion world right now, comes off way more tryhard than fun.

That’s our take, anyway. Long story short: One snake? Whimsical! Two? It’s a love story! A dozen of them crawling up your body along with an army of ants, bugs and tropical birds? Switch to decaf and start over.
