Zendaya attends “FFANY Shoes on Sale” hosted by QVC in New York City.

Miss Zendaya, we love your style instincts, but we think you and your team got this one exactly wrong:

To our way of thinking, the demure, classically pretty, somewhat soft-and-sparkly Helen Mirren styling is dead wrong for a dress and coat ensemble like this one on someone as young and stylish as her. The runway styling is a bit closer to the mark, but we’d take it even further. This look, in order to give it some edge and chicness, needs full-on, hard-assed, post-punk, shock-haired, smokey-eyed, “Debbie Harry at 3 am in 1978” styling. Basically – and we seem to be saying something to this effect a lot lately – this outfit called for Kristen Stewart styling. But we think Zendaya’s more than capable of doing her own spin on that sort of thing. We’d love to see it. We don’t think she’s gone hard nearly enough in her style evolution.
