Style Double Shot: Cobie Smulders and Tom Cruise at the “Jack Reacher” Premiere

Posted on October 13, 2016

The poledance continues. Tom continues to sport a hairstyle he probably shouldn’t. Cobie continues to do the heavy lifting on the style front.

Go away, director person. Shoo. No one cares who you’re wearing.\

Tom is dressed for an acquaintance’s wedding.

Her dress is okay. The irregular, tea-stained mille-feuille style of ruffles feels more than a little stale right now. We’re getting a strong whiff of 2007 or so. We’re not crazy about that black shoulder thingy, but it’s kind of hard to sustain any critique for long while she’s standing next to those two jabronis.

Really cute dress! Or rather, really cute skirt. We’re not convinced on that bodice, which looks too tricky for our tastes. She sure is getting a ton of mileage out of those shoes.

Tom is dressed for Casual Friday at the office.

And this leads us to our point about the dated boy band hair. Below the neck is pure DadStyle. And as Will Smith has handily proven several times over, there’s a way to do DadStyle that’s hot and stylish.  Tom’s not really knocking it out of the park on either the hot or stylish front, but we have no issue with the idea of a man in his fifties dressing DadStyle. He could make a few Will Smith-like changes that wouldn’t be too painful for him and come out looking just a skosh more au courant than he does at the moment. But he’d have to change the hair. You can’t marry DadStyle below the neck to Justin Bieber circa 2011 above it without it coming across a little… shall we say … forced.
