IN or OUT: Ruth Negga in Prada at People’s ‘Ones to Watch’ Event

Ruth Negga attends People’s “Ones to Watch” event presented by Maybelline New York at E.P. & L.P. in Hollywood, California.

This dress could use some serious editing:

Then again, it’s a Prada and their whole aesthetic could be summed up as “needs a little editing,” so we suppose too much complaining isn’t called for here. You get what you pay for (or not pay for, in the case of red carpetry), and complaining that a Prada is overdesigned is like complaining that a Dolce & Gabbana is too Italian or that Chanel has too much quilting.

Besides, we don’t dislike this dress at all. We’d like to see the blue elements removed and some of the bling-y trim toned down considerably, but it’s fun and bright. It looks fantastic on her, although at least half of that effect comes down to her own poise and fabulousness. We guess what we’re saying is, it’s overdesigned and hurts our eyes a little but it sure works for her, which means it works for us.

But go ahead, kittens. Call it.
