Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga attend the premiere of “Loving” at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California.
The way these two are dressing for the various poledancing opportunities this movie calls for, you can tell that the plan is to secure them nominations. They’re dressing with an eye toward awards season. Part of that assessment comes down to the fact that both of them appear to be very committed to making interesting, chic, high-fashion style choices, but – and this is the really important part – not silly or frivolous-looking ones. It’s also evident in the way they tend to evoke the characters or the story of the film. After all, you’re promoting your movie about the famous couple who fought for the right to marry across racial lines …
By showing up at the premiere looking like a couple at an old-time courthouse wedding. That is not, we think, remotely a coincidence.
This didn’t set us on fire at first glance, but as we take it in, we realize he deserves some props for working the hell out of a brown suit. Not only is it a rare choice, but it’s a hard one to make photogenic (which is why it’s a rare choice). But the colors suit his own coloring and the pinstripe in the shirt makes a nice touch. The tie’s a mess and we would’ve suggested going in another color direction for it, like teal.
Yeah, that’s pretty damn bridal. Not in an overtly literal sense because it has just enough off-bridal elements to give it a more couture, fashion-forward feel to it,but it’s hard not to be reminded. It’s pretty and eye-catching on her. The hair and makeup are stunning and she has the bearing to make it look more like the high fashion it is rather than a basic wedding gown.
The shoes are cool, but we definitely would have steered her away from white pumps.
