Gugu Mbatha-Raw tells a color story in Burberry at the BFI London Film Festival

And now, some uncomplicated loveliness:

Does that sound like a backhanded compliment? It’s not meant to. We just mean that it’s a pretty look, head to toe, and there’s not much more to say about it.

But because we get paid to say things about it, here are some random thoughts:

The color story here is really appealing, just for being slightly unusual. Teal, pale blue, oxblood, sage green, yellow and pink – and somehow, it all combines to give it a lightly autumnal feel.

The neckline’s too wide, in our opinion. We keep saying this, and we’re sorry to sound like a broken record on the matter, but this trend for wide, plunging necklines means a lot of dresses with proportion issues. There’s just not enough bust and shoulder to balance out the skirt.

The pleated skirt is lovely, but we don’t think the effect needed to extend into the bust.

We like the makeup choices here; the bold lip and clean eyes. Paired with the killer earrings and simple hair, it helps set off the look.
