We were all set to rail against this choice of dress for being blandly designed and colorless, but credit where it’s due: it comes alive when she sits down. We still think a darker, richer color was called for, but the dress isn’t lacking for visual interest and the shoes make a lovely bit of punctuation for the look, providing just enough weight and color to keep her looking grounded.

She seems to be having problems keeping the underskirt in place when she sits down, but that’s somewhat ironically mitigated by the fact that it’s so close to her skin tone that you barely notice. And anyone can go ahead and call this a quirk or idiosyncrasy or just plain weirdness on our parts, but there’s something about spaghetti straps in a talk show format that just doesn’t look quite … right.
