For spring 2017, Tadashi Shoji returned to his signature boldly colored laces and frills, but with a twist inspired by artist Wu Junyong’s retelling of the Noah’s ark story, “The Flying Ark.” There’s a bit more color and playfulness here than in previous collections; a more dreamlike, almost allegorical vibe. The feather motifs and embroidered birds evoke lightness and flight. As the show notes proclaimed, “In this life, the tangible and ethereal become one.”
