Style Double Shot: Lupita Nyong’o on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”

Posted on September 29, 2016

And now for your daily “SLAAAAAY, MAMA! WERK! COME THROOOOOOUGH, MISS LUPITA” line of brain-softening fanboi gushing.

You know you love it.

Lupita Nyong’o makes an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City to promote her new movie “Queen of Katwe.”

You know a star’s really selling the shit out of a product when she’s got both a “walking in” and “walking out” ensemble for her talk show appearances. Obviously, there’s not much to be said about the dress, but we love the bright yellow (fall trend alert!) -and-white combo. The coat’s gorgeous and the bag is a killer.

She’s one of the few women who can wear white pumps and not automatically make us think of a bride.

There’s way too much going on with this dress, from the wildly competing prints to the tricky skirt. We’re pretty sure most wearers would have a hard time making it work without looking overwhelmed or fussed. And we’re also pretty sure we’d say those shoes were a bit too much with the dress. And yet, it’s all working. Somehow, she manages to tame all the different elements of the look, even as she adds to it by sporting a head wrap. Girl’s got style out the wazoo.

And we’re so happy to see her in something other than bridesmaid pumps, which she tends to default to way too often.

But you know Janelle’s mad at her for getting to this dress first.
