Eva Green attends the premiere of “Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children” at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City.
Despite our reputations and what we do for a living, we hope it occasionally comes across that we have a lot of sympathy for lady stars on the red carpet. No matter what, the average ladystar red carpet experience will have involved the procurement and selection of every item she’s wearing from various design houses, luxury goods manufacturers and jewelers. And if she’s like 99% of lady stars on film premiere red carpets, she’s going to have submitted to time in a hair and makeup chair, as well as the deployment of foundation garments, shapewear and foot-bone obliterating heels. She goes through some version of all that…
Just so bitches like us can go “Enh. We’re underwhelmed.”
We’re sorry, Miss Eva. It’s just that you’re so naturally dramatic looking that this look tends to disappoint us. Oh, it tries to be dramatic, but that’s probably the point. The hair, makeup and dress are all bringing drama to the look in various ways, but such an approach misses the point. She supplies the drama. We’re not suggesting the style choices don’t matter (because then you get Angelina Jolie; dramatic-as-hell looks, dull-as-dishwater clothes), but someone with Eva’s looks doesn’t need Bumpit hair and tons of (cliched) red lace to make an impact. That kind of stuff only tends to fight with her rather than work with her.
She needs to go Morticia Addams rather than Lily Munster, is what we’re trying to say here.
