2016 Emmys: The “Mr. Robot” Ladies

“Mr. Robot” actresses Grace Gummer, Portia Doubleday, and Carly Chaikin attend the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.

The ladies of Mr. Robot have been doing some fine, fine work this season. In fact, they’ve helped save season 2 from collapsing completely. We figured they deserved a little singling out for that alone – and for the fact that they got to do something last night that they never get to do on the show: glam it the hell up.

Grace Gummer in Galvan

That sideswept hair is so very Meryl. Is it us or is her face a bit too done up? The dress is fine, but we suppose the real interest lies in the shoes, which are almost distractingly interesting.

Portia Doubleday in Armani Privé

Serving up ’40s screen siren perfection – with a side of boob the likes of which you wouldn’t have seen in the 1940s. Still, it’s a great, classic look. Could’ve done with a little more of a done-up face, although we suppose it would have risked looking costumey.

Carly Chaikin in Reem Acra

Loved this look. Yes, even with the sheer skirt. This is the second time today we’re saying something like this, but at least it’s an interesting sheer skirt and not a here-are-my-panties sheer skirt. Besides, it’s not the skirt that makes it; it’s that bodice, which is interesting and different without being gimmicky or overdesigned. It’s refreshing to see sheers and lace being used to create hard geometric shapes instead of soft, puffy ones.
