Meryl Streep in Valentino at the “Florence Foster Jenkins” New York Premiere

Meryl Streep attends the premiere of “Florence Foster Jenkins” in New York City.

We keep wanting to like this, partially because Meryl and partially because the dress has some really pretty elements.

Or maybe it only has one pretty element: that print. Because the shape of the dress is terrible and the ombre pattern doesn’t help the effect at all. We’re happy to see her in something as high-end as Valentino, because sometimes she throws on some OTR ensemble that might look fine in real life but photographs terribly. Still, one glance at the look book photos below tells the tale. This dress is strictly FMO – For Models Only. We give Mary Louise big kudos for the attempt, but the way this just hangs off her is kind of depressing. And we’re not sure that shade of blue works all that well for her, strangely enough. You’d think anyone could wear that color but it has a dusty undertone that makes her look almost sickly-pale.

This is at least the third or 4th time this month we’ve seen a pair of silver, sparkly, high-vamped pumps on the red carpet. January Jones just wore a pair yesterday and like Meryl’s pair here, they seemed like a random choice for the outfit. Prediction: this shoe will be the fall 2016 version of the ubiquitous “nude” shoe.
