You can always find several really notable/cray/attention-seeking ensembles on the VMAs red carpet, but the really eye-popping stuff is always saved for the stage. Some of this counts as stagewear and some of it’s simply an outfit chosen to wear while accepting an award, but we’d argue that in itself is something akin to stagewear.
At any rate, let’s judge them.
It’s sad when your backup dancers have way more interesting looks than you do. This is the same sad, tired showgirl/circus performer look she’s been working for almost 15 years now. It doesn’t look hot or sexy to us (not that we’re the arbiters of such things). It just looks old and tryhard. And she didn’t look remotely comfortable in it, which is odd when you consider how long she’s been wearing getups just like this. You’d think it’d be akin to sweatpants for her at this point.
Brit, time for a major style makeover. You look fantastic. Your costume does not.
What with all the crazy lighting effects (not to mention setting the damn stage on fire), it really wasn’t worth putting pictures up of her Lemonade ensembles. We’ll stick to the accepting-the-award ensembles. They’re just as divalicious.
Although we wouldn’t call either of the looks chic. Sure, she’s Queen Bey and all, but not even she can make a glittery gold pantsuit and beaded lace cape work for her.
And this is just a hideous wedding gown.
We don’t know…
We thought they both looked kind of silly. And their outfits don’t coordinate at all, except for the color.
Everything from the waist up is gorgeous. Everything below that is awful.
We don’t remotely like it, but it embodies Dancehall style (we’re told), so it makes sense both for her and the song. It’s still ugly, though.
We’re almost embarrassed to praise this, because it’s kind of stuffy in comparison to the other looks. But it’s chic and she looks good in it. We don’t think the VMAs really call for this kind of look, but it does look good on her.
