Hmmm. Pretty sure we’d hate this if she wore it on a red carpet.
And to be honest, we’re not even saying we like it in this context. It’s a non-color at an event that begs for bright colors and it’s a boring and highly conventional shape at an event that celebrates the exciting and unconventional. But the weird textural qualities help to bump it up considerable, giving it a bit of a sci-fi feel. In fact, if she’d sported little booties instead of those standard pumps, she could’ve really sold it as a retro, Star-Treky kind of thing. As it is, it just barely works. It helps that she looks cute.
But we’re probably overthinking it. It’s a mesh dress. You’re either for it or against it. We find there’s no middle ground on this topic, for the most part.
