Darlings, this morning, we poured ourselves a couple cups of coffee and surveyed the waste land known as pop culture, celebrity and fashion in July. Still, we managed to say a few things. First, Lorenzo offered up his considered thoughts on the Paris couture shows. Then we both paid tribute to Jen Garner and Celine Dion for obeying the “Everyone Wants to Be Me or Do Me” method of image management after a personal hardship: COUTURE MAKEOVERS. Attaladies.
Then we pivot to bitching about Hiddleswift, their ridiculous July 4th weekend festivities and our absolute final word that this is neither totally false from a romance perspective or totally stage-managed because of some hidden end goal, like a music video. It’s situated exactly in the middle: two celebrities, who found themselves attracted to each other, and opted to leverage that attraction for maximum press exposure. It’s not only a tale as old as celebrities, it’s Taylor Swifts normal modus operandi.
From there, it’s a rambling exploration of the news that the new Star Trek movie will reveal that the character of Sulu is gay, in honor of the part’s original actor, George Takei. And more importantly, the news that Takei himself is publicly speaking out against it. It’s a complicated issue that speaks to, among other things, a generational divide among gay men in particular.
And finally, Lorenzo tells you about the best foreign movies on Netflix right now, and we both reveal our lame July 4th weekend plans (in comparison to Taylor Swift’s, we suppose), that we nonetheless fully wound up enjoying.
