Leslie Jones in Christian Siriano at the “Ghostbusters” Premiere

Leslie Jones attends the premiere of Sony Pictures’ “Ghostbusters” held at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California.

And now, Miss Leslie Jones, here to tell her detractors and ignorers to kindly suck it:

If there were such a thing as red carpet journalism (and we suppose, technically, there is), then Miss Leslie would be the Big Story of 2016. She called out the stylists and the fashion industry for ignoring an actress poised to open one of the biggest, most talked-about films of the year, thereby opening up a discussion about the industry’s willful ignorance of women of color and/or women who aren’t “sample sized,” to use the industry term. Unfortunately, she is neither the first woman in a position to point these deficits out who took the opportunity to do so, nor will she be the last. The struggle continues.

In the meantime, the next best thing happened: she stepped out on that red carpet looking fuck-you fabulous, thanks to the increasingly savvy and empathetic Christian Siriano, who has wisely stepped in as the go-to designer for … underrepresented red carpet women. Let’s put it that way. The ones who fall outside the tiny and narrow Hollywood definition of beauty.

LOVE the way this is styled, from the bold hair to the bold jewelry. It was a smart thing to do, since the dress is rather simple and basic. That’s not a criticism. We’ve always said that ladies who don’t have a lot of red carpet experience or ladies who make a lot of bad or questionable red carpet choices (and we’d put Leslie among the former, rather than the latter) should start with something rather simple and learn how to style it up. We do have one quibble, though. The dress is called an “off-the-shoulder” design, but the way the upper part of the bust is slightly collapsing makes it look like those straps were designed to be worn in the more upright, on-the-shoulder position. And we tend to think it would’ve looked better that way, especially as a frame to the necklace.
