Joanna Lumley makes an appearance on “The View” to talk about her new movie “Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie” in New York City.
Question: Is it a good or bad idea to split the Ab Fab ladies up for separate media appearances? We’ve got a solo Jennifer Saunders post coming up too. On the one hand, they’re individuals and they each have long careers in show biz that pre- and post-date their time together. They’re both more than capable of (and if you want to make the argument, we suppose deserving of) solo media appearances. On the other hand, it’s just so much damn fun to see them together. And it just makes good marketing sense, no? Literally every time we see them make an appearance together, we’re reminded of any of a number of their most famous scenes together. Joanna Lumley solo: a veteran actress, model and spokesperson with a four-decade career. Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders together: PATS AND EDDIE!!!!!!!!
We’re just saying.
This is the first time we feel her outfit needs a little editing. We’re all for exuberance and fun in her style choices. And as we said in yesterday’s post, we’d love it if a lot more celebuladies in her age range indulged in the kind of over-the-top style choices she tends to make. But this? Well, it’s a little juvenile, in a ’90s tween kind of way. Put a goofy hat on her and she’s Blossom. The chain belt has absolutely got to go. And we tend to think the tie is a bit much as well, although we’re not averse to a repurposing. Love the earrings, but they look awfully formal for such a casual outfit and the star motif doesn’t need to be repeated.
So basically, keep the pants and blouse, use the tie as a sash, and switch out the earrings for something a little less dazzling. We like the idea of the kicks, but we think there are better, more stylish options than those. It’s a cute idea for a day outfit, but it’s just a little overdone.
