Darlings, we can hardly believe it ourselves, but this week we got to interview bona fide Hollywood legend (and legendary pretty boy) Tab Hunter, star of more motion pictures than we can list.
But here’s a sample:
And a teen idol of the ’50s who managed to knock Elvis off the top of the charts:
But in many ways, his most important work came in the form of his autobiography “Tab Hunter Confidential: The Making of a Movie Star” in which he detailed not only his experiences as a product of the legendary (and dying, by his time) studio system, but also as a gay man at the height of the conformist 1950s, living as a packaged product of heterosexual desire. This in turn led to last year’s documentary Tab Hunter Confidential:
Which is available now on digital platforms after having swept the film festival circuit last year. It’s a fascinating look at a man who’s led a singular life and has some truths to tell and points to make about it all. And it resulted in what may be our favorite interview of all time. It was a joy and a pleasure. And you should have seen the flaming queen looks we gave each other when he started off a story with “I was talking to Bette Davis one time…”
We also spend a decent amount of time hashing out our feelings about the massacre in Orlando, both at the beginning of the podcast and all the way at the end, after the interview. This is not our normal purview, but as gay men we felt we couldn’t let this horror go uncommented-upon by us.
And just to balance it all out, we spend a little bit of time on total frivolities, like Anna Wintour’s influence on the Tony’s red carpet and the high silliness of the Taylor Swift/Tom Hiddleston bombshell.
It’s all here, darlings. From the sad and serious to the informative and entertaining to the totally shallow. We are large. We contain multitudes. And we love you for listening.
You can download/subscribe to the podcast here if you’re so inclined.
