Lily Collins attends Sony Pictures Television Social Soiree Featuring Amazon Pilots, “The Last Tycoon” and “The Interestings” at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California.
Darlings, if you haven’t seen the Amazon pilot for The Last Tycoon, please do so, if for no other reason than costume designer Janie Bryant’s (late of Mad Men) stunning takes on 1930s Hollywood fashion. Lily in particular seem born to wear cloche hats and girly little body-skimming dresses of the period. She has never looked so good as she looked on this show. Which is why the following is so disappointing:
GIRL. That is SO not your look. Know your strengths and play them up – first rule of good style. Trying to be something you’re not is the very worst style choice anyone can make. Pack everything up – including the hair – and ship it off to Kristen Stewart, who is the rightful owner of all of it. You look like an old school movie star. That doesn’t necessarily mean you have to dress like one at all times, but if you keep that as the baseline for all your style choices, you’ll do much better. There are modern ways to do spins on classic Audrey and Liz or even Marilyn and Garbo – looks that will simply sing on you. Go in that direction, please. For public appearances, anyway. This? This just doesn’t work for you.
Besides, the pieces are ugly and the hair color makes you look sallow.
