Elle Fanning in Dolce&Gabbana at “The Neon Demon” LA Premiere

Posted on June 15, 2016

Elle Fanning attends the premiere of “The Neon Demon” held at the Arclight Theatre in Hollywood, California.

The world is so much prettier and more chic since Elle Fanning discovered that there are LOTS of crayons in the box and not just the ones that match her skin tone.

But we have to admit, that’s a lot for us to take in. We’ll need a moment. Let’s all take a hydration break before we get started.

Okay, now. We can start off by stipulating that everything about this dress makes it a better choice than her usual washed-out or tea-stained slips. She’s a girl who comes alive both when you set her off with color and when you set her off with sparkle. She’s every inch a movie star here. That pink is a gorgeous shade that works really well with her and the beading at the neckline really bumps up the glam factor.

But man, we just don’t know about that applique. We’re all for big, bold florals on the RC – especially if there’s the added bonus of sparkle – but this kind of looks like the decor of a ladies room in a fancy hotel. Yellow and pink is a particularly tough combination; especially for white folks, because it tends to pull both the pinks and the yellows out of their skin tone and it doesn’t always make for a flattering effect. If the flowers were more of that pale pink and less of that bold yellow, we think the look could’ve been a little less jarring.

Which isn’t to say she looks bad. Aside from there being too much yellow in the dress and the fact that the top knot does nothing for the look, we have no complaints. It’s sparkly, colorful, exuberant and glam. It’s exactly what she should be shooting for.
