Mia Wasikowska attends the premiere of “Alice Through the Looking Glass” in London, UK.
Darlings, we do so try to take into account a star’s clear personal style preferences – especially when those preferences are very far from what we’d have recommended. We don’t love, for instance, that Melissa McCarthy likes to swaddle her entire body in ten pounds of extra fabric every time she hits a red carpet, but over time, we’ve learned to tailor our critiques around those preferences. Otherwise, every single Melissa McCarthy post would focus on the same issue over and over again. Best to just accept that’s what she wants and try to figure out ways to dress around that preference.
Having said that…
We may have hit the wall on Mia’s whole “clean face and simple hair” thing.
Look, no one is required to pile on the war paint and hair spray – especially if it doesn’t suit them. And in fact, we’d never suggest such a thing for Mia because she’d wind up looking totally unlike herself. But when you’ve got a sparkly Prada gown on at your movie premiere, isn’t perhaps a little bit of zhuzhing called for? Because this isn’t working for us. The dress looks great, but she looks like a Barbie with some other doll’s head in place of her real one.
Tilda Swinton insists on a clean face too, but she usually sports a good amount of makeup to get that alien-esque appearance and tends toward somewhat sculpted hair. More importantly, she chooses ensembles that set that kind of look off. With Mia, it either looks like she’s not ready to leave yet or, more accurately, that she chose the wrong gown for herself. Like we said, the gown is gorgeous and looks great on her, but it really asks for a bit more in the way of head-styling to work. At the very least, less flattened hair and a decent pair of chandelier earrings would’ve gone a long way here.
