Saoirse Ronan attends the “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Serving up Swinging London ’60s mod realness:
The top half, at least. The bottom half is kind of awful. She was seen at the after party wearing a mini-dress that looked identical to this one, so we’re thinking the oddly stiff skirt here is a tearaway and she’s got a mini on underneath it. This is why we’re not fans of changeable fashion. You may be able to get more than one outfit out of the garment, but at least one of the looks is going to be awkward.
Anyway, we love the feathers and the pinkness and the glittery butterfly and the winged eye. It all combines to skirt right up to the border of Tacky Town, but she’s so young and fresh that she can make it work. But only from the top of her head to the waist.
Should she have stuck with the black runway version? We’re asking. It’s more dramatic, but she really takes to white well. Also: a superglossy white or pale pink lip would’ve really taken this to Twiggy levels. Or a little silver heart on her cheek. Something like that. You’re having fun with the outfit, you may as well have fun with your face too.
