Emma Watson attends the “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
We give this all the credit in the world for being edgy and off-the-beaten-path and even downright weird, if you want to call it that.
It’s a night that practically begs for fashion weirdness.
But this doesn’t have any other aesthetic qualities aside from that. It’s just … weird. It doesn’t look interesting or fabulous to us. It doesn’t propose intellectual questions about art-as-fashion. It’s “conceptual,” sure, but we couldn’t tell you what concepts it’s embodying. It’s just a weird-looking garment that doesn’t make her look chic or interesting. For her and for the venue, we’d call this one a failure all around. Yes, the Met Gala encourages experimentation, but this being a museum gala, it also puts a high value on things having real beauty to them. This just doesn’t work on any level.
She looks like she got stuck getting out of her sleeping bag.
