Amy Schumer attends the “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Okay, let’s get this out of the way first.
From straight on, her boobs look like goldfish.
It’s not terrible, but we do tend to find the whole tricky-bust-bleeding-into-tricky-sleeve aspect a little distracting. If she tried dancing in that gown, her boobs are going to be flapping all over the place.
Having said that, her boobs do look quite lovely in this gown, which is fitted rather beautifully to her.
We suppose the chain straps and the lacing were an attempt to give it some edge on a night where “edge” is highly valued. They didn’t quite work on that front, nor did the studded chain bag, which is off from her dress by a shade or two, causing our Fashion OCD to kick in.
But we have to say this isn’t bad for her, all things considered. The color looks great on her, the shape and fit flatter her, and it’s head-turning in its own way. She tends to dress like a bridesmaid 99% of the time she’s on a red carpet, so expecting any sort of haute couture craziness from her would’ve been a fool’s errand. This works, both for her and for the venue, even with some minor design quibbles.
Not really feeling the too-safe hair or makeup, though. This dress could’ve used some seriously declarative head-styling.
