Lupita Nyong’o attends the 2016 Obie Awards at Webster Hall in New York City.
We love ourselves some Prada and we love ourselves a Lupita moment on the red carpet, but…
This is kind of underwhelming.
We don’t love that print – looks a bit like something you’d find in the discount bin of a fabric store, to be frank – but we could see how it might be worked into a fun little springtime ensemble. Unfortunately, this isn’t it. First, the addition of all that embellished trim, while very Prada, was totally unnecessary and actually works against the print. Ripping all that off would go a long way toward lightening things up a bit. Then that skirt needs to raised to just above the knee and given a little more swing to it, instead of hanging off her like it’s soaking wet.
Alternately, keep everything the same but switch out that fabric for a muted solid color or more delicate print, which is what the design actually calls for.
