Johnny Depp attends the premiere of “Alice Through the Looking Glass” in London, UK.
All thing’s considered …
This could’ve been a whole hell of a lot worse.
Yes, the eyeliner is a bit tragic (pretty sure he’s wearing about twice the makeup of his co-star) and the Charlie Chaplin boots are a bit rage-inducing, but we can at least appreciate that he put together a look that more or less reads “movie star.” That it also reads “Gomez Addams” is beside the point. He’s scaled back considerably on the scarves and trinkets and various other gewgaws hanging off him. The jacket is actually kind of nice and suits him well. Nothing quite fits, but nothing is so badly fitted that it makes us weep.
No, really. We wouldn’t have put our stamp of approval on more than half of these choices had he asked us ahead of time, but he sort of managed to wed his personal style to red carpet expectations, with somewhat inoffensive results.
Yes, we’re damning him with the faintest of praise. Our point is, we don’t really love this look, but it’s a hell of sight better than most of his red carpetry of the last five or six years.
