Josh Stamberg, Ruth Wilson, Joshua Jackson and Maura Tierney attend “The Affair” New York screening at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway in New York City.
Hmm. As much as we like this cast and show, we’re afraid we’re going to have to get a few things off our chests here.
The suit, tie AND shoes all matching exactly annoys the hell out of us. Why? It’s not a bad suit, but the whole look -except for the shoes – comes off way too business-like for the setting.
It’s … okay. It’s hard not to see the circus-tent or beachball qualities of the skirt when it’s rendered in a shiny leather. The heavy nondescript top does nothing for it, nor do the shoes, which come off odd under such a heavy ensemble.
That smile goes a long way in making him picture-ready, but we hate the white t-shirt with the suit. It will never not look like an undershirt. By all means, do the classic suit-and-tee, but not white. We don’t care how trendy it is. It always looks like the wearer just left someone else’s hotel room.
No one seemed in much of a hurry to get single shots of Maura’s ensemble. Let that be a lesson to you, dear. Although truth be told, she doesn’t strike us as the kind of actress who remotely gives a shit about such things. That’s fine – and the look isn’t terrible in real-world terms. A New York screening of a cable series is not the time to break out couture or gowns or even dresses, if you don’t want to. We also wouldn’t claim it took less effort than Josh’s look or even Ruth’s, for that matter. It’s just that it doesn’t photograph all that well for this setting. It looks like three actors posting with their director or producer. By all means, wear jeans, boots and a slouchy jacket to an event like this. It’s a classic New York City look, after all. But that shapeless tent of a shirt looks terrible in pictures.
But they seem happy, so there’s that.
