“Girls” actress Lena Dunham attend the 2016 Matrix Awards at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
We’re stunned and flabbergasted. We’re flabberstunned. We don’t actually know what to say when Lena Dunham gets an outfit pretty much … right?
To be fair, there are plenty of quibbles and critiques on our parts, but this:
… is pretty damn good, considering her red carpet record.
Sure, the hair and makeup are a bit of a mess, and the shoes clearly don’t fit her. And we have to admit, we don’t much like the fabric that dress is made of. Plus it looks kind of home-sewn and ill-fitted.
No, really, we’re getting to the compliments now. The shape, style and silhouette are perfect for her. She likes dresses that are… how to put this? “Naive,” we suppose. Often that desire for simplicity winds up manifesting as a bunch of clothes that seem better suited for pre-schoolers and toddlers than a grown woman. But this is the direction she should be going if she insists on wearing this style. It’s still simple and unfussy in that way she prefers, but it at least looks like grownup clothes. We’re trying to be encouraging here.
Fixes: first, get this thing fitted a little better. Then, get yourself a high-contrast pair of pumps. Black would have been our choice, but we could see a dark blue or oxblood working just as well. Finally: hire a damn hair and makeup team if you’re going to be photographed on a red carpet. We respond well to this look only because we can see how easily it could become chic with just a little more polish and thought applied to it.
