Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge pose in front of the Taj Mahal in Agra, India. This is the last engagement of the Royal couple after a week long visit to India and Bhutan that has taken them in cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kaziranga, Bhutan and Agra.
We figured we owed it to her to pay her this compliment, since we spent most of last week ragging on her for wearing vaguely eastern-inspired garments on this trip while avoiding actually wearing anything from a South Asian designer. And for dressing like a tourist in that she was making style choices she’d never allow for herself back home.
This couldn’t be a more perfect rebuke to those criticisms. Naeem Khan is not only an Indian-born designer, but he’s currently one of the hottest designers in the world. And while it’s nice that this dress picks up eastern-inspired design motifs, it’s of equal importance (to us, anyway) that it looks like something she actually wants to wear because it’s her style, rather than something she wore because she wants to make her hosts happy. Strategic diplomatic dressing doesn’t have to be difficult. Michelle Obama mastered this sort of thing. Wear things that suit you and fit your style, but look for ways to show respect for your hosts or guests. Mission accomplished, Cathy.
Is it weird that they recreated the iconic “Sad Diana” photo?
