Darlings, Outlander returns to Starz for season 2 on April 9th and as two queens who got a load of the first several episodes, we’re here to tell you, the creative people behind this show have really outdone themselves on the sets, costumes and art direction. It’s a fine story on its own, but it’s also a jaw-droppingly beautiful piece of television.
We can’t not share:
There’ve been some grumblings about some of the costumes and textiles not being perfectly period-accurate, but we can’t say we find it anything to be concerned about. It’s a story with time travel in it. Anachronisms are not only to be expected, but might even be necessary. It’s not among these shots, but there’s a dress Claire wears at one point this coming season that is a direct copy of a highly influential designer of the late 1940s, only translated into a mid-18th Century French silhouette. These anachronisms can be seen as a deliberate choice, to highlight Claire’s woman-out-of-time status and the possible effects she’s having on history.
Anyway, enjoy the costume porn, darlings. We sure did.
