Señora Variations-On-A-Theme served up her usual double-scoop style on Oscar night, but we’ll give the lady a little bit of credit: she tried to mix it up a bit. And in her interview with Seacrest, she came off ever-so-slightly defensive about her well-known lack of variation in her style choices. It seems our drumbeat of criticism has finally gotten to her. Or one of her gay friends sat her down and had a talk with her. Either way, we see evidence of someone trying to take tiny little steps outside her comfort zone.
As we said, she’s serving up her usual double scoop, but in truth, we never had a problem with her putting the focus on her boobs or preferring strapless dresses. Her body type calls for that kind of focus. A-line shifts or high collars would look awful on her. Our problem was that for a long time, everything she wore was skin tight (so tight she was famous for busting her seams on the red carpet), a brightly colored red or pink only, and usually with a mermaid silhouette if she was wearing a gown. It was all a little too coochy-coochy, Charo 2.0 over the long term.
This, on the other hand, is very nice. Not perfect, but definitely a gown that’s shooting for chicness and elegance over merely looking as hot as possible. The color is lovely on her. The bust is a bit fussy in a way that’s typical for Marchesa but also a way that she doesn’t need. But the big news here is the full skirt, which is not her usual go-to silhouette. We don’t love every detail, but we’re going to have to give her this one for being stylish and striking.

And while the relative simplicity of this look might make you think it’s more of the same ol’ Vergara, even this is simpler and more (here’s that word again) elegant than her previous style choices. It’s a perfect after-party look. All in all, she did well for the night.
But the hair is kind of shaped funny, no?
