Olivia Wilde attends the 2016 Atlantic Theater Company Actors’ Choice Gala at The Pierre Hotel in New York City.
Having spent most of the last year going out in very ’70s-inspired fashions, we surmised that Miss Olivia was doing a subtle form of branding to make you think of her “recording industry in the ’70s” drama Vinyl. Sometimes, there was very little difference between what she wore in her daily life and what her costumes looked like for the show. We thought it was a smart way to blend marketing and personal style – especially since she’s really built for those lanky, breezily sexual styles of the period.
But now, she’s ditched subtlety completely.
We’re about a week away from her just holding up signs that say “WATCH MY SHOW ‘VINYL’ ON HBO!”
Aw, we’re just teasing. Aside from the sweater, howevs, the rest of the look is … not so great. We’re trying to be gentle because this is obviously a somewhat low-key event that isn’t about her. Ignoring everything that’s happening below the waist (because we’re feeling kind) we’ll just say that the sweater’s a lot of fun and it deserved much better pieces to show it off. Also, we really don’t understand the idea of putting a matching red blazer over a red sweater.
That sweater’s pushing our “Mad Style” buttons because we can’t help thinking that’s a very ’70s shade of red (’70s = tomato red, ’80s = lipstick or fire engine red, ’90s = burgundy red) and a very ’70s font.
